For the past 20 years John has been in private practice providing environmental advice to a wide variety of clients in both the private and public sectors. During this period John has enjoyed participation on catchment management committees, his membership of the Independent Hearing & Assessment Panels (since 1998) and especially his involvement with bushfire committees creating greater awareness of the effects of fire upon our social and ecological landscapes. Since the inception of computerised mapping in the mid 1980s John has worked with this developing technology and participated in the significant benefits that can be derived from mapping landscape features to determine potential management regimes. During his career, John has gained immense satisfaction in assisting trainees to begin their careers and move on to other organisations. As Managing Director of Travers bushfire & ecology, John considers himself extremely fortunate to be able to work with his staff whose collective skills create our firm’s specialist expertise in the disciplines of bushfire, ecology, riparian and mapping. Over the past 30 years John has worked extensively in the environmental field. John commenced his career with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, gaining experience in conservation management as a Senior Ranger and extensive fire fighting experience. In his next role as Manager Planning & Research with the Department of Bush Fire Services John was responsible for the implementation of ‘Planning for Bushfire Protection’ in 1991. These conservation and bushfire authorities cemented John's passion for the environment.
