Senior Ecologist

Michael Sheather-ReidMichael has 20 years experience in environmental assessment, ecological consultancy and restoration management in both the private and public sectors. During his career, Michael has worked for state and local government, restoration companies and environmental consultancies.

As Senior Ecologist with Travers bushfire & ecology, Michael is responsible for the day to day planning of projects and liaison with clients and relevant statutory authorities.

Michael actively manages restoration contractors, prepares development applications with an ecological focus, submits applications for Controlled Activity Approvals and prepares vegetation management plans, flora and fauna reports, tree assessments and riparian assessments. 

During his career, Michael has managed over 100 restoration sites throughout NSW, including artificial wetlands, bushland reserves and riparian habitats for government and private clients. He has managed several significant projects involving soil translocation and regeneration of Cumberland Plain Woodland, Duffys Forest, Blue Gum High Forest, Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub and Elderslie Banksia Scrub Forest.

Michael is a trained bushfire planner and has the capacity to integrate the potentially conflicting themes of bushfire and ecology into management plans. 

Along standing family and personal history with aboriginal communities has equipped Michael with skills to facilitate consultation regarding the management of aboriginal sites.
